Pecel Pincuk ‘Berkah’ : Scoring Points In Simplicity

This time I’m hitting a mark again about a culinary stall in Malang called Pecel Pincuk ‘Berkah’. I’ve talked about pecel before, pecel madiun to be exact and today it’s still from East Java but different city. So, I mostly get this pecel for breakfast whenever I go to Malang. It’s only a small restaurant capable of having a few amount of customers but they usually do for takeaway. Open business hour is early in the morning (about 5AM) until night, I think. However if you come during breakfast time around 6AM, there would be a lot of people queuing already.

How Does Pecel Pincuk ‘Berkah’ Taste?

There’re few things I love about this pecel pincuk especially the peanut sauce. Its peanut sauce is like double-edged blade since it gives the main highlight to the entire cuisine but the amount is too little. Per default serving you only get a small pack of peanut sauce. The fact is, the focal point of a pecel is the peanut sauce so they have to make it as outstanding as possible. For this pecel, the peanut sauce was more into savory side with a little bit of sweetness. I guess people in East Java are not really into sweet food, eh? Various fresh vegetables like long beans, beansprouts, cucumbers, and spinach are used for this portion. They were just boiled without being marinated in any kind of spices or ingredients. You can count this dish as heavy salad though.

So, Pecel Pincuk ‘Berkah’ Has Various Side Dishes..

Not that many pecel pincuk sellers offer various side dishes for their customers but this one is different. Probably it’s East Java style to have lot of side dishes choice. When I bought that pecel, I could choose lot of side dishes like fried tempehsunny side up eggsfried tofuoseng-oseng tempeh (you get per default serving), fried chickentempe bacemayam bacemand some others. My most favorite is cow lungs (too bad I didn’t take pictures). I make sure to grab some whenever I hit this place. It’s boiled lung which has been marinated in pretty strong salty water so the outcome is perfectly salty. It might be too salty for some people but for me it’s just perfect. You might as well try this cow lungs if you happen to come by.
