This one great game has taken my attention more than any similar games I found before. The name is Major Mayhem by [adult swim] games. It’s an action game taking setting/plot of military background and you’re taking a role of a major soldier. Your main task is to dive across field of enemies and save your girlfriend. Seriously, the story can’t be more cliche than that though but the gameplay itself is pretty engaging and immersive. So let’s go through this game.
Major Mayhem’s Simple But Interesting Game Mechanics
I know visual presentation is important for a game but even with uncomplicated design Major Mayhem still grab my attention. The graphics looks like light 3D vector art but the gameplay is what I love the most. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t say that the visual was unappealing though, it just had simple minimalist epic style.
Speaking about its gameplay, you’re in a 2D platformer world. In your foreground is your character, the major, and all the enemies (and hostages apparently) are in the background. The hostages hold power ups or extra coins if you’re able to save them. Meanwhile you need to kill all the enemies to proceed through the entire level and finish the game eventually.
To kill the enemies, just tap them and your hero will directly shoot at them. They’ll be in open space or behind some covers but some weapon like magnum, rocket launcher, and several others can shoot through covers ((or bluntly destroy them). Save some coins and get new gears at the store. BTW, any assault riffles and magnums here are my favorite guns since they accommodate rapid firepower or lethal damage.
Achievements And Character Customization
In Major Mayhem a lot of achievements (or I think it’s military ranks) could be achieved by completing missions. I still don’t find it useful inside the game other than personal satisfaction though. It’s still fun to fulfill the missions despite of having no advantages in gaining higher ranks/achievements.
Besides the achievements, you’re also able to customize your hero by equipping various helmets and clothes. This feature also only for aesthetics since it provides no advantages/disadvantages for technical gaming experience. For style and fun only. Somehow, if the developers give additional features on equips, this game would be more fun to play. It’s also hilarious to watch the hero wears various unique costumes though.
