House of Udon – Even Another Local Japanese Cuisine!

This time, a restaurant my friends recommended me. I don’t know if it’s scattered all along this country but somehow I couldn’t find any info. Looks like House of Udon is a starter in local Japanese cuisine. FYI, I’ve never been to Japan before so I don’t know what authentic Japanese cuisines taste like. It’s located inside a shopping mall in Yogyakarta, Galeria Mall. I’ll share the location at the end of this post, so stay tuned ’till the end. 🙂

Great Curry at House of Udon

TBH I only bought a menu that time at House of Udon. My friend suggested me to get curry rice, thus I went for it. I wonder what a real Japanese curry rice tastes like (have seen it tons of times in movie or TV show and looks like it’s so freakin’ delicious). So basically, this is what I got..

It’s a chicken katsu curry and the katsu was down below. They used styrofoam bowl for that and the diameter is about 20cm. Inside you’d have rice, chicken katsu, curry (with chunks of carrots and potatoes), and side mix-veggies salad with mayo.

Speaking about the taste, I don’t know, the curry was a little bit gooey in texture. The carrots were slightly undercooked but the potatoes were perfect. The chicken katsu was pretty good as well. It’s crispy and had good thickness of the meat. Some places really have thin meat but freakin’ thick batter, but not this one. The curry itself.. mmmmm… kind of bland if I may say. I expected that to be quite strong with spices in flavor, similar to cuisines from Padang, West Sumatera, Indonesia. On the other hand, the taste was delightful and belly-satisfying. Also the portion is pretty good for average eater (me, from 30% to 85% full).

And Now To Conclude Everything..

I dare to say, if they could give improvements to sharpen the edge, that will become a totally awesome menu. Everything was tasty, only the curry was lacking some ‘punches’. They might as well open some other stalls/vendors outside of the mall 😀
