Mozzarella has been a trend for nowadays culinary business, well, at least in my city. Back then all I knew was cheddar which is very common in markets. Now almost every culinary business offers their food with mozzarella topping, including this one. It’s actually a common food I’m about to talk, which is ayam geprek (mashed chicken). I’ve been talking about similar dish before but this time from different vendor. Today is ayam geprek Mr. Joss but I don’t know the exact location since I use delivery courier. I’ll give you the approximate map at the end of this post. For now, let’s check it out.
So What’s With Ayam Geprek Mr. Joss?
The story was, I heard some rumors that some restaurants in Yogyakarta served ayam geprek with cheese. The cheese choices were cheddar and mozzarella. Thus I conducted a research about this and in fact, there are lots of restaurant. One of them was ayam geprek Mr. Joss obviously. So I tried to look for the restaurants in an online courier services app and find this restaurant.
Long story short, I ordered a portion of ayam geprek with mozzarella topping and I got that . The chicken was about IDR 10k which is normal and the mozzarella topping was IDR 8k. Usually people order ayam geprek for its spiciness but I have almost zero tolerance, so yeah, that’s not spicy at all. (note : I heard someone has ever ordered a portion with 64 pieces of chilies).
Speaking About the Food Itself..
The chicken from ayam geprek Mr. Joss was actually a little bit different than any others I’ve come across. It was a little bit sweet for some reasons. The sweetness is a little bit unique, it didn’t feel like sugar though. Up until now it’s still undiscovered, but let me know if you guys have something in mind. The seasoning wasn’t that strong so you can still definitely taste the meat.
Now speaking about the cheese, somehow I’m not that satisfied. The cheese wasn’t really worth IDR 8k, it’s way too little for a portion of chicken. The combination of chicken and mozzarella didn’t really work well though, they counter each other’s flavors. I wonder if people order a very spicy chicken, will the mozzarella stands out? I don’t think so.
And Now To Conclude
It’s a great idea to combine chicken with cheese. I’d still prefer cheddar cheese though. I’ve tried it and it works pretty good. The chicken was nice but the combination didn’t really that great for me, I think they need to redesign some proportions.
